Being Proactive

P.S. Fr. Bill asked Computer Center people before about Internet... and he asked the question that goes like this:

Should we build the highway first before the cars come or should we wait for the cars before building the highway...

He was relating to internet access during that time...Should we wait for the internet demand before we put up internet or wait for the demand before offering internet....

My answer now: Build the highway before the cars come... I think that what also happened ... although not explicitly stated by Fr. Bill... First option is proactive and the second option is reactive.

Just a thought... I hope you don't mind me sharing. :)

Server (IP: 192.168.2.100)

1] sudo aptitude install nfs-user-server
[For Ubuntu 6.06]
sudo aptitude install nfs-kernel-user

2] specify what directory to share by editing /etc/exports; example below

/download 192.168.2.0/255.255.255.0(ro,insecure,all_squash)

3] sudo /etc/init.d/nfs-user-server restart
[For Ubuntu 6.06]
sudo /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server restart

4] sudo exportfs -ua; sudo exportfs -a


Client (IP: 192.168.2.x)

1] sudo mkdir /mnt/nfs
[Ubuntu 6.06]
sudo aptitude install nfs-common
sudo /etc/init.d/nfs-common restart

2] sudo mount -t nfs 192.168.2.100:/download /mnt/nfs
3] Check if its mounted already

cd /mnt/nfs ; ls -l


or

df

4] To umount

cd / ; umount /mnt/nfs

Basic Installation



Commands:

1] man


2] sudo

Execute command as another user

sudo -s -H

3] apt-get


Example:

apt-get update

apt-get upgrade

apt-get install nvu


4] rm

remove files or directories

5] gedit


6] ln [target] [directory]

Make links between files

Example:

ln -fs /usr/bin/rar /usr/bin/unrar


7] cp [source] [destination]

copy files or directories


8] passwd

Change password


9] chown

change file owner or group


10] chgrp

Change group ownership.

11] mkdir

Create a directory


12] dpkg


Example:

dpkg -i ymessenger_1.0.4_1_i386.deb

Giving your 101%

From a strictly mathematical viewpoint:

What Equals 100%? What does it mean to give MORE than 100%?

Ever wonder about those people who say they are giving more than 100%?

We have all been in situations where someone wants you to GIVE OVER
100%.

How about ACHIEVING 101%?

What equals 100% in life?

Here's a little mathematical formula that might help answer these
questions:

SPIRITUALITY

Wheresoever one may turn, one finds extreme tension,
anxiety and suspense prevailing everywhere. The root cause
of this universal chaos is restlessness in individual minds.
Man has made tremendous progress in various spheres of life,
but unfortunately has not cared to know anything about
the spirit within and is altogether ignorant about it.
He has unraveled the mysteries of the starry welkin,
sounded the depths of the seas, delved deep into the bowels of the
earth , braved the blinding blizzards of snowy Mount Everest,
and is now out exploring space so as to establish interplanetary
relations, but sad to say, has not found out the mystery of the
human soul within him. He has always ignored the question of
questions and has studiously avoided the vital issues of life
regarding self-knowledge, or the knowledge of the soul, as of no
consequence.

A person may possess all the riches of the world, but if he does
not know anything about his own soul, it all in vain. The ultimate
purpose of all knowledge is that one should know oneself.
A Muslim divine, in this context, pronounces:

"The be-all and end-all of knowledge is but one,
That one may know the real worth of one's soul,
Thou knowest the value of everything else,
But what a folly that thou knowest not thine own value."
